2nd EnMAP User Workshop 2025

published on April 15, 2025
The 2nd EnMAP User Workshop 2025, held from April 2-4 at Schloss Nymphenburg in Munich, was a great success, with 120 participants attending in person and 42 joining online. The workshop featured 44 talks, 26 poster pitches, and 5 application tutorials, showcasing outstanding scientific achievements and applications from the EnMAP mission.

Three years after launch, significant progress has been made in the provision and successful utilization of hyperspectral EnMAP data across a wide range of applications, including agriculture, food security, water quality, ecosystems, forest monitoring, soils, mineralogy, snow, ice, and trace gas monitoring for methane, CO2, and NOx. German service providers, including OHB, EOMAP, Vista, and Geopard, presented the development of services based on EnMAP. The USGS and ESA highlighted the relevance of EnMAP as a precursor for developing future Landsat Next and Copernicus Hyperspectral Imaging Mission (CHIME) missions. Many international scientists confirmed the outstanding data quality of the "best hyperspectral instrument in space" for their applications.

Site visits to the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and OHB in Oberpfaffenhofen further enriched the experience. OHB delivered an insightful presentation on the history of EnMAP, emphasizing the critical importance of the "lessons learned" during its long development period, which contributed to the subsequent growth and establishment of OHB as the leading space company in Europe. DLR offered participants a closer look at the infrastructure of the Ground Segment, including a visit of the control rooms of the DLR German Space Operations Center (GSOC), from where the operations are performed.

The premises of the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation, along with social events such as the Icebreaker Café at the Botanischen Garten and the conference dinner at Augustiner Bräustuben, provided a memorable setting for scientific exchange and networking.

The local organizing committee was led by Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), with support from the German Research Centre for Geosciences Potsdam (GFZ) and the DLR Space Agency in Bonn. We appreciate the participation and contributions of all attendees and look forward to continuing the journey of scientific collaboration within the EnMAP community.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation for hosting the event and contributing to its success.
